Help when a de facto relationship ends
De facto relationships are treated much like marriage when they end. When a de facto couple separates, the same legal process is available for dividing property and making arrangements for children as for a married couple.
Whether your relationship counts as de facto depends on things like how long you were together, whether you lived together and shared your finances, and whether you have children. Generally the relationship needs to have lasted at least two years, though there are exceptions. We’ll tell you at your free first appointment where you stand.
Most separating couples are able to settle these things by negotiating, or with the help of a mediator. If you can’t agree, you can ask the court to decide.

How We Help When a De Facto Relationship Ends
Dividing your property
Your property is valued, and the contributions each of you made to the relationship are assessed. We’ll help you reach a fair division, by agreement wherever possible.
Arrangements for your children
We’ll help you agree on arrangements that put your children first, and represent you in court if you can’t agree.
Child support
We’ll explain how child support works and help you settle on an arrangement that’s fair for your children.
Agreements without going to court
If you agree on how to divide your property, the settlement can be made by consent or through a binding financial agreement. We’ll prepare it so your agreement is properly recorded.

I went to Mirabellas in a desperate state after having not seen my daughter for 2 months. The court battle with my ex wife went for a total of 19 months…
I found that Mirabellas was extremely knowledgeable in family law issue. John in particular was very fair and supportive during a difficult period. John provides a tailored service.
